followup on the compact fluorescent story

A long followup on the compact fluorescent story from Pharyngula. My previous calculations about mercury in compact fluorescents.

Lord almighty (forgive me for the archaic exclamation), I hadn't given Mercury so much thought until now. I was skeptical about the true dangers until I read about the Karen Wetterhahn incident and now the bulbs are going to make me nervous, even if it's not quite same danger level. Yikes.

The elemental kind really is much less of a danger. Consider the difference between sodium the element and sodium chloride: a reactive metal that burns in water vs. table salt.

The worry alone is probably more damaging to you than any mercury would ever be. Use CFs and be happy.
